Privacy Policy

Last updated:April 6th, 2026

At Birthsmarter we take consent, transparency, shared-decision making, and privacy seriously. We believe we have a responsibility to operate digitally as we would IRL and that means thinking critically about what data we collect, who we share it with, and what we're willing to trade away in the name of growth.

To operate in alignment with Birthsmarter values, we’ve decided to collect only the information we need to provide our services. We don't sell your information to anyone and we've made deliberate choices to limit what data flows to third parties — including advertisers.

This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and who we share it with.

If you have any questions about this policy or how we handle your data, reach out to us:

Your Consent

By using our website or services, you agree to this Privacy Policy and consent to how we collect and use your personal information as described here.

What Information We Collect

We collect two types of information:

We also collect payment information when you sign up for a program, but we don't store your credit card details — that's handled directly by our payment processor.

If you participate in live video sessions via Zoom, those sessions may be recorded. Zoom will notify you and ask for your consent when you enter a session. Most recordings are deleted within 30 days. A small number are kept in a password-protected archive, accessible only to our educators, for the purpose of educator development and quality review. The video only captures the educator — not participants. If you have questions or prefer not to appear on camera, you're always welcome to participate by voice or use the chat. Chat history from sessions is never stored or shared.

We collect survey data in two ways: class reviews to help us improve our programs and teachers, and occasional post-birth surveys to understand how our classes affected the birth experience. For post-birth surveys, we will always ask for your explicit opt-in consent before using or sharing your responses.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

Website Analytics

Our website uses Plausible Analytics to help us understand visitor trends and the effectiveness of our marketing. We chose Plausible because it's a privacy-focused platform that collects only anonymous, aggregate data. Plausible does not use cookies, does not track individual visitors, and does not share data with third parties. You can read the Plausible Analytics Data Policy at plausible.io.

Advertising and Conversion Tracking

Birthsmarter wants to be easy to find — and we do run ads on Google and Meta (Facebook/Instagram) to reach people who might benefit from our programs. But how we do that reflects our values.

We don't load any third-party tracking scripts or pixels from Google or Meta on our website. Instead, when you arrive on our site by clicking one of our ads, those platforms add a click identifier to the URL. We capture that identifier on our own server to measure whether our advertising is working. If you go on to complete a purchase or register for a class, we send only the click identifier and basic conversion details (event type, time, and value) to the relevant platform via their server-side API — nothing personal, nothing health-related.

This is a meaningful departure from how most businesses handle digital advertising. The standard approach involves loading Meta and Google scripts directly on your site, which gives those platforms broad visibility into visitor behavior. We've deliberately chosen not to do that. It may cost us some ad performance, and we've made that tradeoff knowingly — because we think all businesses could and should operate this way.

For more information on how Google and Meta handle conversion data on their end, see the Google Privacy Policy and the Meta Privacy Policy.

Who We Share Your Information With

We share your information only when necessary:

We have no plans to sell Birthsmarter. But in the unlikely event of an acquisition or merger, we would be transparent with you before any sale closed. We would contact you directly, explain the new company's privacy practices, and ask you to opt in to their policy before your data transferred. We would not hand your information to a new owner without your knowledge and consent.

Information You Share in Our Programs

Our platform lets you share information with your classmates and providers. What you share is your choice — we just want you to be thoughtful about it, since we can't control what other participants do with information you share voluntarily.

How Long We Keep Your Data

We keep your information for as long as you're an active participant in our programs. If you'd like us to delete your information from our email marketing platform or CRM, just email us at info@birthsmarter.com and we'll take care of it. We may retain some data afterward if required to meet legal obligations or resolve any outstanding issues.

How We Protect Your Information

We use industry-standard security practices to protect your data. That said, no system is completely foolproof — we can't guarantee absolute security, but we take it seriously.

Age Requirement

Our services are for people 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you think we've accidentally collected data from a minor, please let us know at info@birthsmarter.com.

California and Nevada Residents

California residents can request information about how we share your data with third parties for direct marketing purposes. Contact us at info@birthsmarter.com or write to us at the address above.

Nevada residents have the right to opt out of the sale of their personal information. We don't sell personal information, but you can still make that request by emailing info@birthsmarter.com.

International Users

Our services are designed for US residents. If you're outside the US, please note that your information will be stored and processed in the United States.

"Do Not Track" Signals

Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" signal. We don't currently respond to these signals because there's no consistent industry standard for what they mean. That said, our use of Plausible Analytics means we're already collecting far less data than most websites.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we do, we'll post the updated version on this page with a new date at the top. We recommend checking back occasionally.
